For 160 years Washington Gas has been distributing natural gas to customers in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia. We bring natural gas to your home or business safely and reliably.
Beginning in early August through approximately November 30, 2012, Washington Gas and its contractor NPL will perform a phased project to replace the gas service lines to the homes in the Brookfield, Va., subdivision that are served by a copper gas service line.
This project is being undertaken as part of our commitment and agreement with the Virginia State Corporation Commission to conduct a study of copper gas service lines. We will be analyzing the replaced lines to gather data to assist the industry in furthering understanding of the behavior of copper service lines in different environments. The project is also part of Washington Gas' commitment to comply with federal programs with respect to managing the integrity of pipeline distribution systems.
Washington Gas and NPL will perform this project in phases, moving from section to section for a few weeks at a time.
The project will begin near the Brookfield Elementary School. [map image]
Project work is now continuing on:
The following letters were delivered to affected customers and non-affected residents (neighbors of affected customers ) on those streets:
Please note that project schedules are affected by weather and other circumstances outside our control, but we remain committed to completing this work as expeditiously as possible. If your gas service line is being replaced as part of this project, your gas service will need to be temporarily interrupted while your service is being replaced. Construction personnel will be on-site between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, to re-establish gas service and relight your gas appliances.
Washington Gas will provide updates to affected customers and their non-affected neighbors throughout the project. Washington Gas will also update local homeowners' and civic associations' email lists about the project as appropriate.
During the project, you will notice both Washington Gas and NPL personnel and their vehicles throughout the area. For identification purposes, vehicle logos for both companies are provided below:
NPL vehicles will also have markings to identify them as a Washington Gas Contractor. Lastly, employees of both Washington Gas and NPL are required to carry individual identification.
We will do our best to minimize disruption to your neighborhood. While work is in progress, our crews will make temporary repairs to the roadway and will permanently restore paved surfaces as well as any excavation to your property as closely to an as-found condition as practicable. Permanent repairs will be made as quickly as possible after the work is completed.
Washington Gas would like to emphasize that the reason for replacement of these services is to conduct the copper service analysis, and not due to any safety-related condition. Washington Gas remains confident that its system is safe and is committed to providing reliable natural gas service to all the communities it serves.
We remind all residents of our longstanding safety message:
