Beverly J. Burke

Vice President and General Counsel, WGL Holdings and Washington Gas

Beverly J. Burke is vice president and general counsel of WGL Holdings and Washington Gas. She is responsible for directing the legal work of the company and supervising the company's attorney staff and the office of the corporate secretary.

Ms. Burke joined Washington Gas, a subsidiary of WGL Holdings, in 1992. Before joining the company, she served for 12 years in the Office of the Corporation Counsel for the District of Columbia in the areas of civil litigation and appellate advocacy, as well as in various supervisory positions within the office. Earlier, she was a law clerk to the Honorable Norma Holloway Johnson of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.

A graduate of Brown University and the National Law Center of George Washington University, Ms. Burke has been a member of several national and local bar associations. She has participated in various committees of the District of Columbia Bar, including the legal ethics, nominations, and screening committees. She also was a member of the District of Columbia Courts Gender Bias Task Force.

Ms. Burke has been an instructor on the local rules of professional responsibility for the District of Columbia Bar, and a mediator for the U.S District Court for the District of Columbia.

Ms. Burke is a member of the board of directors of the Washington Performing Arts Society and the Council for Court Excellence. Other community activities include serving in leadership roles with local school associations and participating in various community service projects through her membership in a local chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
