A. New Gas Homes are Metropolitan Washington area new home communities that use natural gas for heating, as well as all things like water heating and cooking.

Q. How can I open a residential account?

A. You can call us at (703) 750-1000. We require at least 72 hours notice (excluding weekends and holidays) and may require a security deposit.

Q. Will I have to pay a security deposit?

A. Washington Gas may require a security deposit to initiate or maintain your service, depending on your credit and payment record. Deposits may be paid in installments, and after 12 months, we refund the deposit, plus interest. All deposits held for more than 90 days earn simple interest.

Q. How soon can I get gas service to my new gas home?

A. When you move into a new gas home, your home will already have gas service. All you need to do is to change the account into your name.

Q. I am currently a Washington Gas customer and will be moving to my new gas home soon, what should I do to close my account and get an accurate final bill?

A. Call us at (703) 750-1000 to close your account. To get an accurate final bill, please make sure that we can access your meter. Your final bill will be based on that reading, which will ensure its accuracy. If cannot access your meter to take an accurate reading your final bill will be estimated reading.

Q. How can I pay my bill?

A. Washington Gas offers several convenient ways to pay your gas bill.

  • Regular Mail: You can send your check or a money order along with your bill every month before your bill is due.

  • The Phone: You can call and pay your bill by calling either of the following phone numbers: 703-750-1000 or 202-624-6049. This option allows us to deduct your gas payment from you r bank account.

  • Automated Payment Plan: If convenience is what you seek, Washington Gas has established the Automated Payment Plan, through which your monthly bill payment is deducted automatically from your checking account. To enroll is very easy, just call us at 703-750-1000 or 202-624-6049 and a customer representative will process your request.

Q. What should I do if I smell natural gas?

A. Get everyone outside the house, leave the doors unlocked, and call our emergency leak line at 703-750-1400 or 202-624-6049. Do not light a match, use the telephone, or turn electric equipment on or off. Once you reach a safe distance, call the emergency leak line.
